FAQ
Q. How much will I save
A. Because the government wants to promote solar energy, everyone who wishes will be eligible for a grant to help you with part of the installation cost. And not only will you be saving the environment but you will also be saving on your domestic bills, because solar panels shouldprovide over half the annual hot water demand of a normal domestic house. In the summer the panels will provide all your hot water heating and even in the winter it will still provide 25% of your hot water supply. Not only that, but it will also pay for itself after just 4 years.
Q. Will it be a lot of maintenance
A. Solar panels couldn't be more easier, once they are fitted by a member of staff there is a free annual check, then every 2 years a service is required to check the anti freeze etc.
Q. Does the UK get enough sunA. Contrary to popular belief, the UK has a plentiful supply of solar energy. Although this is often diffused through clouds so the radiation does not feel as hot as direct sunshine, however, the energy can still be collected by a solar water heating system. Solar water heating systems collect both direct and diffused sunshine and should provide over half the annual hot water demand for a normal domestic house.
Q. Is my home suitable for Solar Panels?
A. Yes, if your southerly facing and you have a vented pre heat system, meaning header tanks in your airing cupboard feeding your cylinder hot water tank.
Q. Will it damage my roof
A. No. Panels are very light and can withstand severe weather and hailstones.
Q. Can you have in roof panels, like a velex window
A. Yes, but it's unnecessery because it can pose a problem if you have to service the system and remove the panels leaving a large void in your roof area and open to the elements.
